ADB to hold environmental assessment in Azerbaijan

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will hold an environmental assessment next week of its projects in Azerbaijan, the ADB Baku office told Trend today.

The environmental mission will last no more than a week and cover transport, energy and water projects, the office said.

ADB specialist Ralph Starkov heads the bank's mission.

The ADB has signed 10 loan agreements on seven projects in the country totaling $596.9 million.

Before Jan.1, 2012, $253.5 million or 42.5 percent of the total volume of the allocated loans was spent.

As of Jan.1, 2012, the total amount of loans approved by ADB for Azerbaijan amounted to $1.094 billion.

Azerbaijan is a member of ADB since 1999.

The ADB was established in 1966 and has 67 members. Azerbaijan became a member on December 22, 1999. The country's participating share in the bank's capital is 0.5 per cent.

Japan and the US (31.2 per cent of the total share capital), India and China (12.8 per cent), Australia and South Korea and Canada (16 per cent) are the ADB leading shareholders.
