Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.3 / Trend, H. Veliyev /
The Baku Telephone Network, a unit of the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Ministry, has transferred several automated telephone exchanges (ATE) in Baku to NGN technology, the Ministry has said.
According to the Ministry, in coming days, the operator will commission new stations based on NGN technology in the Yasamal and Nizami districts of Baku. Also, the operator will put into operation a new electronic ATE in the Garadagh district.
The new technology will enable the operator to increase capacity by more than 7,000 telephone numbers.
Transition to the NGN network is one of the priorities with which the operator intends to stimulate the long-term growth in the segment of new services. The new system will allow the operator to provide IP (Internet Protocol) telephony services, broadband Internet and IP-TV as well as traditional communication services.
Today, more than 60 percent of the existing automatic telephone exchange is based on next generation networks.
Baku Telephone Communications uses solutions, routers, and equipment from Huawei, ZTE and Cisco to provide reliable communications and a broadband Internet network, with data transfer rates of from 1 to 10 Gbps.
An alternative network, SDH-Ethernet, is involved in the different segments of the network. It allows for E1 communication channels through the existing network SDH over IP-based networks.
The Baku Telephone Network plans to decommission ATE 438 and 494 by late 2010. By conducting the reconstruction works on these ATEs the operator intends to achieve 100-percent digitalization of the entire network infrastructure. NGN (Next Generation Network) equipment has been already installed at these stations and, after expansion, the old stations will become the thing of the past.
The operator also plans to reconstruct ATE 493, which currently functions on obsolete DMS technology.
