The purchase of the control stock of Azertelecom (primary provider) by Bakcell ltd. mobile operator is not currently the subject of negotiations, Bakcell told Trend on Friday.
According to Bakcell, by now the companies have not reached any concrete agreements on this issue, and the negotiation process is almost frozen.
The possibility of joint promotion of service packages of both sides were being considered before.
Azertelecom began commercial expansion in Azerbaijan in 2009 and today controls a quarter of the country's Internet market.
The company specializes in delivering Internet traffic and data transmission services to mobile operators, Internet service providers and state communication operators.
Azertelecom network covers all large and medium cities in Azerbaijan.
Azertelecom gets internet traffic from completely independent and interchangeable backbone lines in the north and west.
Communication channels to the north docked to the backbone of the Russian cellular operator "MegaFon", through which Azertelecom has access (via Moscow) to the main Internet distribution centers based in Stockholm and Frankfurt. West channel routed through Georgia and has direct access (via Istanbul - Turkish channel) in Frankfurt.

Bakcell company was established as a joint venture company by GTIB company and the Azerbaijani Communications Ministry in March 1994. It was the first mobile operator in Azerbaijan. In December 1998, the company introduced advanced GSM technology. In December 2003, the privatization of the company was successfully completed. As a result, since January 2004, Bakcell has been operating as a company with 100 percent private capital.
Today, the company's network covers more than 99 percent of the population and 92 percent of the state's territory.
Bakcell's share on the mobile market is 35 percent. The number of active subscribers exceeds 2.6 million. The total number of registered phone numbers is 3 million.
