The Republican Prosecutor's Office has completed investigation of 265 criminal cases against 480 people over the last five years. Criminal cases were submitted for consideration to the relevant courts, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said in the Azerbaijani Parliament today.
"The investigation was completed in 2009. About 133 criminal cases were submitted to the court. At present, the Office for Combating Corruption under the republican prosecutor's office has 48 criminal cases," Garalov said.
He said that measures are conducted to combat corruption in accordance with the Azerbaijani President's political will in the country. "The state program was approved in this sphere. Execution of the National Plan of Actions began," Garalov said.
A bill on approval of the Attorney General was made at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament on Tuesday. Garalov was appointed Azerbaijani Prosecutor General April 25, 2000. He was appointed this position twice.
A paragraph was eliminated in the second part of Article 16 by amending the law "Prosecution" last year.
