By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

The industrial sector in Kazakhstan rose by 4.1 percent last year, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media outlets.

Speaking at an expanded meeting of the government of Kazakhstan, Industry and Infrastructure Development Minister Zhenis Kassymbek said that the growth was achieved despite the decline in world prices for base metals, sanctions against major trading partners and other external factors.

"This became possible due to the rapid 4.6-percent growth of the mining sector and of the manufacturing industry by 4 percent," he said.

The main sectors were: engineering (14.1 percent increase), chemical industry (8.1 percent), oil refining (8.1 percent), light industry (4.4 percent), oil and gas production (4.8 percent).

By regions, the leaders in industry development are the Atyrau (10.6 percent up), East Kazakhstan (9.3 percent), Kostanay (8.3 percent), Akmola (6.9 percent) regions and Astana (6.7 percent).

Kassymbek also noted that during the implementation of the industrialization Program in Kazakhstan, since 2010, more than 1,250 projects worth 7.9 trillion tenge were commissioned and 120,000 permanent jobs were created.

In 2018, more than 100 projects worth 1.3 trillion tenge were launched with the creation of more than 13,000 jobs.

"In 2019, it is planned to commission about 120 projects worth 1.1 trillion tenge with the creation of 20,000 permanent jobs," the minister said.
