BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3. The world's capacity to produce batteries for storing electricity has more than tripled (up to one terawatt-hour) over the past three years, Trend reports via the International Energy Agency's (IEA) report.
Moreover, about 80 percent of all batteries are produced in China, 10 percent in the US, and the rest in the EU, South Korea, and Japan.
According to IEA forecasts, by 2030, China's share in total battery production could drop to 65 percent, and the EU and the US could produce over 30 percent of batteries in total.
“Including all proposed projects, battery device production might reach 10 TWh (terawatt per hour) by 2030, five times the current number. This overall capacity will fulfill global demand, given the world's trend toward zero emissions and renewable energy,” the IEA report pointed out.
To note, the issue of energy storage on batteries is relevant for all countries developing renewable energy sources, including Azerbaijan, which is studying it with the assistance of Chinese and Arab companies.
