Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictive measures, according to official data, the country's economy grew by 2.2 percent in the first half of the year, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.
Construction and manufacturing remain the main growth drivers. According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of Kazakhstan, the growth in the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers was recorded at the level of 20.4 percent. The industry's share in mechanical engineering is 31.6 percent.
Moreover, they are preparing to launch new projects in the automotive industry, the production of components: on July, 8 key documents were signed on the implementation of new investment projects in Kazakhstan. Industrial assembly of Lada and Renault cars has begun in Kostanay, and Lada Granta bodies will be cooked and painted on site. The future KamLitKZ plant for the production of cast iron for KAMAZ trucks will expand the range by manufacturing the main gears of the driving axles, the components will be supplied to the conveyor of the Kama Automobile Plant in Russia. Investments in the new project will amount to about 82 billion tenge ($191.3 million).
According to the Association of Kazakhstan AutoBusiness (AKAB), in the first 6 months of 2021, 39,795 vehicles worth over 311.1 billion tenge ($725.9 million) were produced in Kazakhstan.
Of these, cars 34,556 units (+24 percent), 4,253 units of freight transport (+42.9 percent), 537 buses (-23.1 percent), 340 trailers and semi-trailers and 109 units of other specialized equipment. The volumes of vehicle production exceeded the results of the first 6 months of 2020 by 20.4 percent.
In the first 6 months of 2021, the Kostanay ‘SaryarkaAvtoProm’ plant produced 23,962 units of cars, trucks and buses worth 148.2 billion tenge ($345.8 million), an increase of 41.6 percent on annual basis. Almaty Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan produced 12,319 passenger cars with a total value of 116.8 billion tenge ($272.5 million). Semipalatinsk SemAZ shipped 2,113 units of commercial vehicles (+91.2 percent) in the amount of 18.4 billion tenge ($42.9 million). In Kokshetau, KAMAZ-Engineering produced 704 trucks (+ 64.1 percent) worth 16.3 billion tenge ($38 million). The Hyundai Trans Auto plant produced 433 units of trucks and buses. Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan has 96 buses.
The five most popular brands (including export), whose products are mastered at enterprises in Kazakhstan: Chevrolet (15 571 units), Hyundai (12 377 units), Kia (4 391 units), JAC (2 668 units), and GAZ (2,062 units).
Exports for the first half of 2021 increased by 77 percent, to 4,387 vehicles for a total amount of over 28.2 billion tenge ($65.8 million). The majority of finished vehicle exports were carried out in June 2021. As many as 1,529 Hyundai, JAC, and Chevrolet vehicles were exported to Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan.
