BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Turkmenistan holds the potential to become a significant player in energy transit and distribution, Ariel Flores, Executive SVP, Upstream, bp, said at the plenary session “The Latest Trends in the Global Energy Markets and Prospects for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation” at the international conference and exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2024” (OGT 2024) in Ashgabat, Trend reports.

"Turkmenistan is strategically located at the crossroads of major geopolitical regions - Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. This creates unique opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. By developing partnerships with neighboring countries, Turkmenistan can become a key player in energy transit and distribution.

Multilateral energy agreements and cooperative structures can bring significant economic benefits not only to Turkmenistan but also to its neighbors and global partners," Flores also said.

According to him, the future global energy markets will focus on sustainability, digitalization, and innovation.

"Turkmenistan has the potential to engage in these global trends by implementing new technologies that enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and promote sustainable development in the energy sector, especially given its substantial resources. The energy transition presents not only new challenges but also opportunities for our industry.

Turkmenistan is at a turning point: with vast energy reserves, a strategic geographical position, and an openness to cooperation, the country has every chance to become a key element in ensuring global energy security," he added.

Flores emphasized that by expanding infrastructure, diversifying export routes, strengthening regional cooperation, and aligning with global energy trends, Turkmenistan can secure a long-term role as an important energy hub.

"The future of energy lies in collaboration, innovation, and shared prosperity. Turkmenistan is well-prepared for this new energy landscape, and I look forward to the future opportunities with optimism," the executive vice president concluded.

To note, the OGT 2024 forum is an international platform that brings together leading national and international oil and gas companies, as well as industry experts and financial institutions. The major objective of the event is to strengthen the dialog on sustainable development of the energy sector and attract investments into the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan. The forum will discuss the prospects of field development, modernization of processing facilities, as well as the introduction of advanced technologies and environmental aspects of hydrocarbon production.
