The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, will visit the Chinese region of Xinjiang Uygur, the Organization of the Islamic Conference said.
As a result of the disorders on July 6 in the administrative center of Xinjiang-Uygur autonomous region, Urumchi city,156 people died. Demonstrators set fire to cars, removed police barriers and damaged buses. According to the latest information from the law enforcement agencies, 156 people died, and 816 were wounded. It was reported that three civilians and one policeman died in the clashes. People protesting in Urumchi expressed their anxiety concerning the death of two Uygurs during clashes between toy factory employees in Guandun province recently.
Ihsanoglu commented on these events and stressed the necessity that this problem should be solved through dialogue.
The Head of the Committee for Muslim Minority Affairs, Qasim al-Masri, will accompany the OIC Secretary General during the visit.
