South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Company will assist Kazakhstan in shipyard repair and construction of a new shipyard in the Caspian Sea, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with reference to the Kazakh national defense enterprise Kazakhstan Engineering.
"Kazakhstan Engineering and the South Korean company STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., (STXO & S) signed a Memorandum of Understanding within the second international exhibition of arms and military equipment KADEX-2012," the company said.
The parties plan to explore the possibility of such joint projects as shipbuilding / ship repair yard construction in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, modernization of one of the shipyards in Kazakhstan and possible transfer of Korean shipbuilding industry's advanced technologies to Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh National Company 'Kazakhstan Engineering' is administered by the Kazakh Defense Ministry. In total, the company unites 24 enterprises located in different regions of the country. The company's mission is to ensure strategic state interests in the development of the defense industry, manufacturing high-quality military-industrial products and services to the Defense Department and other law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan.
STXO & S is a structural unit of the STX Corporation holding, specializing on engineering, construction, energy, design and manufacturing of engines. The company has a great experience in military and civil shipbuilding.
