Former member of Iran's national canoeing team, Arezou Motamedi is now paddling for US national team, Roozonline news portal reported.
Motamedi came into the U.S. in 2012 has previously said that she learned to paddle about 7 years ago. She was also on the Iranian national canoe/kayak team for five years.
"My parents are so happy for me to be in America to pursue my two dreams; to get my education and to reach the highest level I can in kayaking. This is an amazing opportunity for me that I would not have in Iran," Motamedi said in 2012.
At the Asian Qualification Games in October 2011, Motamedi won the 4th place at the 200m kayak race.
In 2011, Motamedi became the first Iranian woman who achieved Olympic quota to participating 2012 London Olympic competitions but later Iranian officials excluded her, the report said.
After then, Motamedi left Iran's national team and went to the USA.
At the 2012 USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint National Championships, Motamedi took 3rd place among women's kayaking (1000m, 500m, 5000m).
